I tell you and you forget, I teach you and you remember, I involve you and you understand.

For the sake of remaining as brief as possible, I’ve chosen (a right or privilege)

Now in order to keep that right or privilege I think we can see what our Founding Fathers thought of it by taking a look at George Washington’s First State of the Union address: http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/firsts/sou/

As I interpret this; one of our Presidents important points in his address was being prepared for war, to keep our country a free country.

“Among the many interesting objects which will engage your attention, that of providing for the common defense will merit particular regard. To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.

A free people ought not only to be armed but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well digested plan is requisite: And their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories, as tend to render them independent on others, for essential, particularly for military supplies.

To discriminate the spirit of liberty from that of licentiousness, cherishing the first, avoiding the last, and uniting a speedy, but temperate vigilance against encroachments, with an inviolable respect to the laws.” Again for time sake: (These paragraphs were taken from the First State of the Union Address by George Washington)

Freedom is NOT absolute.  It brings with it responsibilities.  Your freedom of responsibility will bring your life circumstances, so choose wisely.

Oliver Wendell Holmes said of our freedom of speech in this quote from him, “You do not have the freedom to shout “fire!” in a crowded theater because it puts others in danger.”

In our country we have freedom of religion. What does this mean? It means the government will not interfere with our practice of religion.

Someone must always pay the price for our freedom.  Jesus, soldiers, etc. have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our FREEDOM! “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36

James2: 12 “Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!”

Galatians 5:13 “for you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

There are some who would like to end freedom as our Founding Fathers’ saw it.

On this Independence Day I want to thank Jesus for my eternal freedom.  I also want to salute and thank the soldiers for our countries freedom!

Essentially freedom is not freedom until someone pays the price for it.  Will we continue to Let Freedom Ring?  I pray so! God bless you all on this Independence Day!
