David Tells Us Trust in the Lord
Good thirsty Morning! Today I am particularly thirsty. Get ready I hope the Holy Spirit will make you thirsty also! We are going to look at Psalm 37:1-8 particularly, but there will be other scriptures to look at as well. We are most familiar with verses 3 and 4. “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and HE WILL give you the desires of your heart.” (ESV) Anytime in the word, that you see HE WILL you can take it to the bank HE WILL! God is not a man that He should tell a lie. In verse 5 it says, “Commit your way to the Lord; (Did you get that, “your way”) (What does that mean?) Trust in Him and HE WILL do this.” (ESV) (Do what?)Look at the next verse) HE WILL make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” What is our righteousness? We know that all our righteousness is as filthy rags. We can only live in the righteousness that Jesus gave to us. It’s essentially HIS righteousness. Getting back to your way, it does not mean that we twist God’s arm to our way. That’s ridiculous! But we are to give Him our way and if it is wrong He will fix it. If it is right HE WILL make our righteousness shine like the dawn the justice of our cause like the noonday sun.
The next verse is the hard part. “BE STILL (Oh no there it is, be still!) Before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; DO NOT fret when men succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; DO NOT fret – it only leads to evil.” (ESV) We as intelligent human beings know that DO NOT means DO NOT! Verse 9 says, “For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord WILL inherit the land.” (ESV)
Now, if fretting leads to evil and evil men WILL be cut off, then we need to obey the DO NOT FRET! He, I’m preaching to me I DO NOT want to be cut off from my Father (ABBA FATHER).
When we ask our Lord for something we need to believe that He will give it to us. He will give it to us just as we ask or He may need to change it a little bit to fit His will. In Matthew 7:9-11 it tells us, “Which of you, if his son asks for bread will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish will give him a snake? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father in heaven give GOOD gifts to those who ask Him! Verses 23, and 24 of Psalm 37 says, “If the Lord delights in a man’s way, He makes his steps firm; though he stumbles, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.” (ESV) Oh, beloved that’s where I want to be in HIS HAND! Let us make sure we are men and women of peace. Verse 37 reminds us, Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a FUTURE for the man (or woman) of peace. To sum this up we need to truly Trust the Lord and do good. What am I thirsty for? I am thirsty for Trust in the Lord, and knowing I am in His hand!
